Install and update S3Client

S3Client runs on your computer and connects to Amazon S3 or an S3-compatible storage service. Installing the application does not create an account with a storage provider.

What do you need?

The website provides an installer for 64-bit Windows (x86_64). S3Client’s interface is in English. This documentation uses the menu and button names shown in the application.

You need network access to download the application, receive updates and reach your storage service. The installer also checks for the Microsoft Visual C++ x64 Redistributable, a component S3Client needs to run. If it is missing or too old, the installer downloads it from Microsoft and installs it. Windows may ask for permission or require a restart.

To use S3Client after installation, you will need the access credentials and connection settings supplied by your storage service. See how to prepare an account.

Install S3Client

  1. Open the Download page and click Download for Windows.
  2. Open the downloaded file, whose name ends in Setup.exe.
  3. Follow the installer’s instructions to install S3Client and, if needed, the Microsoft component. If a restart is required, restart Windows, then run the installer again.
  4. S3Client opens when installation finishes. You can launch it again later using its Windows shortcut.

The application and its installer are digitally signed by ALMAGESTE.

On your first launch, your S3 connections are not configured yet. Open File > Accounts… to add an account, then follow Make your first transfer.

Update S3Client

An update keeps your accounts and settings. Accepting an update authorizes its download, installation and an automatic restart of S3Client. Once you confirm, a progress window prevents you from starting new operations. Operations already running finish before the restart.

  1. In S3Client’s menu bar, open ? > Check for updates.
  2. If a new version is offered, click Yes to install it or No to keep using your current version.
  3. After clicking Yes, leave the progress window open. S3Client downloads the update, waits for current operations to finish, then installs the new version and restarts.

If no update is available, You are using the latest available version. appears. If checking, downloading or installing fails, a message explains the error and S3Client stays open.

Choose whether to check for updates automatically

By default, S3Client checks for an update at startup. This check does not install anything without your confirmation.

  1. Open Tools > Options…, then the General tab.
  2. Select Enable automatic check for updates to keep checking at startup, or clear it to disable the check.
  3. Click OK to save your choice.

You can still check manually using ? > Check for updates.
